Regina Downtown Waste Infrastructure Upgrade

Regina is the capital of Saskatchewan and the 16th largest city in Canada, with a population of more than 226,000. Located in the heart of the Prairie Provinces, the city experiences long, harsh winters and has a busy downtown core that is home to businesses, residents and visitors alike.

Downtown stakeholders identified the need for more resilient waste and recycling infrastructure as part of their environmental improvement works. With 67 street cans in service, many nearing the end of their life, challenges such as commercial waste deposits, can-diving, fire risk and extreme cold have highlighted the limitations of traditional open-top designs.

The goal was to select a standard enclosure that could perform reliably in all conditions, improve safety and support the long-term renewal of the Regina’s Downtown public realm.

metroSTOR’s RCF35 enclosures were chosen to meet these requirements, combining robust welded steel construction with a clean, adaptable appearance. The units specified include anthracite gray powder-coated finishes, internal bin chutes, pull-out containers and bottle racks for recyclables. Designed for operational efficiency, they can also be fitted with local graphic wraps to reflect the city’s identity.

This investment represents a significant step toward standardizing containment across Regina’s Downtown, helping to improve street cleanliness and deter misuse. metroSTOR are proud to support the City of Regina, creating a safer and more welcoming environment for the community.
