Transforming Downtown Baltimore, one alley at a time
Illegal dumping and exposed trash has historically blighted Baltimore’s alleys, attracting rodents and blocking public walkways. Now, just steps from the Inner Harbor, a coordinated effort is transforming neglected public spaces in a bid to create a cleaner, safer and more welcoming Downtown Baltimore.
The installation of metroSTOR’s clean, robust and rodent-resistant Trash Cart Enclosure Units, has brought immediate improvements to this busy downtown area.
Each unit accommodates up to three 95-gallon trash carts, enclosed within a secure, anthracite grey powder-coated steel shell.
Key features include:
The before and after installations shots at this site are striking. Our team witnessed open bins and towering piles of waste and recycling. Loose bags were spilling into pedestrian routes and gated alleys behind restaurants, with rats scuttling across around in broad daylight; a significant hygiene risk.
Now, the sleek, uniform enclosures eliminate overflow and litter, reducing rodent risks and completely transforming these previously un-loved alleys. The clean lines and consistent finish immediately lift the area.
As one the most densely populated areas, Downtown Baltimore’s success depends on quality infrastructure at every level and that includes waste. This project perfectly highlights how the right infrastructure can support resident and business pride, encouraging positive behaviours and attitudes around waste and recycling.
