metroSTOR support West Hartford’s food waste goals with new, smart drop-off stations

West Hartford, CT is taking a major step forward in food waste diversion with the rollout of multiple public drop-off stations, launching on Earth Day 2025. Building on the success of the Morley neighborhood pilot—which diverted over 160,000 pounds of food scraps—this town-wide initiative gives residents access to secure, app-unlocked collection bins for convenient, no-cost food waste disposal. The program is designed to be a cost-effective alternative to curbside pickup, offering a scalable solution that addresses the state’s growing waste crisis while supporting more sustainable habits.

metroSTOR is proud to support the initiative by providing durable, lockable food waste collection units that promote clean, secure, and responsible use. By starting with four strategically placed drop-off points, the town hopes to boost participation and lay the groundwork for future expansion. With support from American Rescue Plan Act funding and a strong commitment from local officials, West Hartford continues to lead the way in smart, sustainable waste management.
