Downtown Berkeley Tests Smarter Trash Solutions
Downtown Berkeley has kicked off a pilot program to tackle one of its biggest public space challenges: keeping trash secure, sanitary, and out of reach from rodents and rummagers.
Working with metroSTOR, the Downtown Berkeley Association installed a new containment unit in the heart of the district. The goal? To find a cleaner, more durable alternative to standard city cans that often spill over, attract pests, or get tampered with.
With positive feedback from the pilot, Berkeley is exploring how these smarter units could play a bigger role in creating cleaner, more welcoming streets for residents and visitors alike.
