Secaucus Strengthens Community Composting with Secure 24/7 Drop‑Off Sites

The Town of Secaucus, NJ has strengthened its residential composting program with the installation of four secure, access‑controlled compost drop‑off locations across the community.

Led by the Town’s Environmental Department, the program allows residents to divert household food scraps through neighborhood‑based sites available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Launched as a pilot in partnership with Community Compost Company, the program quickly gained traction, diverting more than 9,000 tons of food scraps from landfill within its first six months.

As participation increased, the Town identified the need to replace temporary plastic sheds that required frequent maintenance and posed security and durability challenges. Following an internal review, Secaucus selected metroSTOR F‑Series Organics Cart Enclosures as a long‑term solution.
